The Curse of Cortez: Week 73 in Japan

Another album cover.

Hanging with Kouta.
Splits with Elder Wayas!

"Konnichiwa!"
Says I
"Hey!"
Says a Venezuelan man
Despite being in Yokohama we've been blessed to come upon quite a few Spanish speakers in this area over the past view weeks. I think I might have some type of curse. Elder Smith said he hasn't ever run into this many Spanish speakers in his entire mission. It's also not the first time I've had a companion tell me that in the first few weeks of a transfer. Anyway something funny happened with our new found friend named Diego. Turns out he speaks Japanese so we could all participate in the conversation. He asks where a certain station is. Little did he know the effect that such a question could have on a busy road. Japanese people love to help lost people. Especially foreigners. An old man jumps right in between us before we could answer.
"Just continue up this road, it's on the top of the hill before the railroad crossing on the left." Diego bows and says thank you
A small lady comes up
"I heard you were looking for Gumyoji Keikyu Station.  Just continue up this road, it's on the top of the hill before the railroad crossing on the left."
This repeated a few times while we stood off to the side and watched our good friend Diego try to keep his patience as everyone took turns being the hero. He looked at as and told us.
"I guess I'll just continue up this road, since it's on the top of the hill before the railroad crossing on the left."

I had an awesome week, I wrote that last part on a train ride to Zone P-day but due to the fun happenings I don't have much time before P-day ends, so here's some highlights from the week.

  • General Conference was great! Lots of good stuff and an overall good time. One of our investigators brought their friend and both of them LOVED it. Also had a friend from Vietnam who speaks pretty decent Japanese but despite not having a perfect understanding he said he felt really good and that it was a good thing.

Post General Conference with Kouta and his friend, Ogo. They're awesome!

  • Remember the curse? Also ran into a Peruvian family this week. Turns out the wife has 3 brothers and they're all returned missionaries. She's the only nonmember in her family. Loves missionaries.
  • We met a guy named Noc on our way to Zone P-day. He's from Georgia. In the Navy. We started talking to him on the way there today, told him we were playing basketball, and he decided to come with us. So that was cool.
  • Members are the best people ever. We got ice cream from our ice cream member for a ward a event. We taught the young men how to make American Hamburgers.

Love you all! And even more importantly Jesus loves you!
